As you are aware Superintendent Dr. Michael Rossi will be leaving the Madison School District and taking a new position in Sparta. His last day in Madison will be November 30th.While we wish him nothing but the best, please know that the focus of the Madison Board of Education is to make sure that this school district continues to move forward during this period of transition.
One of the most critical responsibilities of the Board of Education is the hiring of a Chief School Administrator (CSA)/Superintendent of Schools. The Madison Board takes its role in this very seriously and to that end has taken a series of proactive steps. The first one is the hiring of a highly qualified Interim CSA to help us lead the district until a permanent replacement can be hired. Our goal is to have the hire of an Interim CSA on the agenda for approval at a meeting before the end of this month.
The Board has already posted an advertisement of employment for a permanent CSA. We have chosen at this time to conduct the search internally in order to save the often exorbitant fees involved with hiring a consultant. Four of the members of the current Board have experience in hiring a CSA which will help facilitate the process. We have set a very high bar for this hire and if the internal search does not deliver the caliber of candidate we feel this job requires; we will then entertain entering into a contract with an experienced search firm. The posted advertisement reads as follows:
The Madison Board of Education, a high achieving PreK – 12 public
school district with 5 schools, $43 million dollar budget and approximately
2,400 students, located in Morris County, seeks an outstanding, dynamic
student-centered visionary and collaborative leader and
communicator, who will promote continuous growth in student achievement and
provide a vision to challenge all students to be life-long learners and to
shape their future by realizing their dreams and contributing positively to the
Successful applicants will possess a valid NJ School Administrator Certificate and have 3+years’ experience as a Superintendent and proven success in the areas of curriculum, finance and personnel management. NJ salary, benefits and residency regulations are in effect and will be honored.
While it is the Board’s role to hire the CSA, your input on several essential questions is crucial to the process. We are asking that you please take some time to respond to the survey that is being shared with you here.
We look forward to reading your responses and we will be sure to communicate regular updates as this process unfolds over the course of the upcoming weeks.
