BRUCE WATSON, INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT
Bruce Watson is an accomplished educational leader with over 40 years of experience in public education, including extensive central-office leadership in both K-8 and K-12 districts. He describes himself as an educational leader who focuses on establishing relationships, building trust, and collaborating with stakeholders to develop consensus and foster continuous growth across the district. He is a leader who supports a clear and focused mission, strong instructional leadership, a safe and orderly environment, a climate of high expectations, positive home–school relations, the preservation of student learning time, and the celebration of both large and small achievements.
Mr. Watson began his career as a business education teacher and athletic coach at Bogota High School before serving as School Business Administrator for the Northvale, Bogota, and Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High school districts. Following a period in the private sector, Mr. Watson returned to public education as Assistant Superintendent for Business and Board Secretary in Fair Lawn, where he was later appointed Superintendent of Schools in 2001. He retired in 2016 after 24 years of dedicated service to the Fair Lawn School District.
Since his retirement, Mr. Watson served one year as a superintendent in New York State and has continued to support New Jersey public schools through various leadership roles. He was Interim Superintendent in Glen Rock for two years before serving in the Rockaway Township, Tenafly, and Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School districts. He also spent time as Interim Business Administrator in New Milford and Tenafly. Most recently, Mr. Watson served as both Interim Business Administrator and Director of Special Services in the New Milford School District.
Mr. Watson is known for his approachable, collaborative, and team-focused leadership style, as well as his ability to unify diverse groups. He brings extensive experience in administrative leadership, district financial management, faculty and staff support, special education, community engagement, and a long-standing commitment to serving children.
