Dodger families,
The MPS faculty, staff, administration, and Board would like to wish all of you a very restful break and a Happy New Year. Please be reminded that our schools will be closed on December 24, 2021 and will not reopen until January 3, 2022. During this time, all offices will be closed to provide our educators, support staff, administrators and students with some much needed time for rest and self-care.
As we head into this Winter Break, please take a moment to review these important updates:
Please be advised that during the holiday break, all necessary contact tracing procedures will be conducted by the Madison Department of Health.
Parents of any student who tests positive for COVID-19 or any unvaccinated individual who is exposed to COVID-19 should have their child isolate or quarantine and follow these important steps:
Contact the Madison Health Department if you have not been contacted already. Our local Health Officer, Michael Fitzpatrick, has confirmed that contact tracers will be notified of any and all positive test results in our community automatically via the state’s Communicable Disease Reporting System. Using this information, the contact tracers will notify all necessary individuals.
Please also notify anyone who may have been in close contact with your child in the 48-hour period preceding the onset of symptoms or from the date of a positive test.
Consult the MPS Rules for Return to School for specific instructions on the recommended period of quarantine or isolation for your child. Please note that this is a live document which is updated in real time in response to changing health guidance.
Contact your child(ren)’s School Nurse for further information/instructions before having them return to school in the New Year. The district’s School Nurses will be checking email periodically throughout the holiday break and will provide responses, as necessary.
Parents should closely monitor student Chromebook use over the break.
The district Go Guardian and Gaggle alert systems will remain active to ensure that police and school officials are notified if a child may be in danger. However, non-emergency alerts will not be monitored until school resumes in January. Parents should always be mindful of student internet usage, especially when school is not in session.
Even over the break, “If you see something, say something.”
As a community, we can keep our schools and each other safe by sharing information and seeking help in the following ways:
For emergencies, endangerment issues, or suspicious behavior - Call 911
For child abuse concerns - Call 1-877-NJABUSE (1-877-652-2873)
For all other concerns, call MPD Dispatch at 973-593-3000, or use the new RSVP-3 app to make an anonymous report.
Thank you for taking the time to read all of this information. Additional updates from the school principals can be found by clicking on “SCHOOLS” at the top of this page.
Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Winter Solstice, and Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you in 2022!
