Summer Reminders & Contact Information

Before we put the 23-24 school year behind us and transition completely into summer mode, we wanted to make sure that all students and their families had all the information necessary as our focus officially turns to the 24-25 school year.

Referendum Update & Summer Construction
Madison High School will be undergoing a number of projects related to the referendum that started today, Friday, June 21st.  Those projects include new roof tops units, paving, asbestos removal, bathroom renovations, and ramp installations.  In addition, the current track and football field will be torn up and replaced in preparation for the upcoming fall athletic season.  Given the amount of work taking place inside the building and on campus, students, parents and community members are asked to refrain from coming on campus or to the school building without prior permission or a scheduled appointment.  Those attending an optional summer workout or camp that is on campus or at MRC, should utilize the parking lot at MRC.  Students will be responsible for transporting their own equipment, water, and anything else they may need until the building is reopened.  Updates regarding the status of projects and when we can safely allow students back to campus will be communicated throughout the summer.

Summer Hours & Points of Contact
During the summer, the main office at Madison High School is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.  If there are specific questions, please call the main office (973) 593-3117 or via email to the following people listed below.  We will do our best to answer your questions in a timely manner.  Be mindful that school counselors are on summer recess beginning on Tuesday, June 25th, and will return to school on Monday, August 26th.

  • Christine Internicola / Assistant Principal (internicolac@madisonnjps.org) regarding courses in World Language, final grades, scheduling conflicts, standardized testing, and college planning.

  • Peggy Redmond / Guidance Administrative Assistant (redmondm@madisonnjps.org) regarding scholarship information, transcript requests, SCOIR assistance, school registration, and high school records.

24-25 Student Schedules on Genesis
Students may sign into Genesis and view the classes they are currently scheduled for in the 24-25 school year within the "scheduling" tab.  Period and teacher assignments will not be made available until August when summer packets are released and all assigned back to school forms are completed.  Study halls and senior privilege periods will also be added at that time.  Those families new to the district will receive access to Genesis when the rollover from the 23-24 school year to 24-25 school year occurs on July 10th.  Until then, please contact the guidance office with any questions.

In August, Ms. Internicola will email students an “Elective Change Request” Google Form.  If a student wishes to change an elective they are enrolled in, they must complete the form.  Please note, electives may be full and their request will only be honored if a spot is available in that class.  Requests to move up a level in core classes and other select electives will not be considered as the appeal deadline was in April.

Summer Assignments
Summer assignments for Advanced Placement (AP) courses and all English classes are posted to the MHS homepage.  Students should click the corresponding link for the class they will be taking in the 24-25 school year for more instructions.  Assignments will be reviewed and discussed the first week of school.  In addition, there will be optional, suggested assignments for other courses that students may be taking.  Courses that are not listed, do not have a summer assignment.  Any student that requires, but does not have access to a Madison email account should email Mr. Drechsel for a username and password.

Ninth Grade & New Student Orientation
Incoming ninth graders and any new student to Madison should reserve the day of Tuesday, August 27th for orientation.  Students will be provided a tutorial on how to interpret their schedule, a tour of the building including access to their assigned hallway locker, and the opportunity to ask questions of current students.  In addition, we will have student Chromebooks, along with usernames and passwords, available for any student that does not have a Madison issued device.

Registration for Fall Athletics & Marching Band
Registration for the 2024 Fall Athletic and Marching Band seasons is now open.  Directions to register and contact information for fall coaches and important dates to put on the calendar are found on the MHS homepage.  Please note, the practice date listed is the date of the first official practice.  Please coordinate your summer plans around these start dates.  Any workouts that are held prior to this date are voluntary and do not require a physical.  The deadline to register and ensure that students are cleared by our school physician is Monday, July 15th.

Summer College Planning
We recognize that many of our rising seniors may already be thinking about the college application process for the fall of 2024.  While some colleges open their applications in August and students are welcome to submit their applications at that time, please note that MHS sends all supporting documents (eg. counselor/teacher letters of recommendation, transcripts) beginning in September.  As part of the NACAC ethics code, college admissions departments adhere to their established early action/decision deadlines for both the application and the supporting high school documents.  This means that although colleges accept college applications and supporting documents prior to their established deadlines, they will not make admissions decisions about applicants prior to those deadlines.

Counselors will invite students in the Class of 2025 to the high school on Wednesday, August 14th for a day of college planning and assistance on college applications.  We hope that this day will give students a head start on applications prior to the start of the school year and allow them ample time to ask questions and address anything else they may need before classes begin.  More information will be communicated as the date approaches.

Class of 2025 Spirit Wear
The 2025 Senior Spirit Wear Store is live! The store will only be open for the weekend so please act fast. If you would like Senior Apparel and Spirit Squad items please order by Monday, June 24th. We are only keeping the store open for a week so that orders can be processed and you will receive your items before the start of the next school year.
